The Next Steps

During the day, delegates voted on priorities for the Wildland Network. In her summary of the day, Alison Parfitt started by giving the results of the vote:

Less managed vegetation

12

Re-introductions, introductions, herbivores

12

Wildland character and sense of place

14

Human potential – livelihoods, skills and experiences associated with wild land

15

Larger/expanded areas for wildlife in the lowlands

10

The almost equal prominence given to each of the categories indicated the broad range of aspiration for the Network, which would be incorporated into the strategy and work programme. The immediate actions for the Network coming from the day would be:

  • encouraging networking amongst members, especially through the setting up of the web site
  • being clear about who and what the Wildland Network is
  • encouraging the Topic groups to get going
  • developing a programme of events/meetings/field visits for the membership
  • linking to others/encouraging others to see the relevance of the Wildland Network agendas
